In late 2017, I abruptly left New York, my home of thirteen years, on the sudden emergence of a chronic pain condition.
Returning to Australia, I adopted Max from the local RSPCA. With health issues of his own (FIV), Max wasn't supposed to go outside. However, I soon got him used to a harness, and almost every morning for the first two years, coffee cup in one hand, harness in the other, and my cellphone at the ready, I tried to capture his daily investigations.
Put together with the help of my old friend Tony Oates from Canberra's Drill Hall Gallery, this DIY book of words and photos documents Max across the seasons, indoors and out, as we shadow each other and learn to establish new rhythms.
